NRA Basic Pistol
NRA Basic Pistol
NOTICE: This classic version of Basic Pistol is going to be phased out soon. For information about the Blended Learning version please go HERE
NRA Basic Pistol (BP) teaches the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude for owning and operating a pistol safely. This class meets the requirements for several states to serve as training for Concealed Handgun Permits.
Students learn NRA’s rules for safe gun handling; pistol parts and operation; ammunition; shooting fundamentals; range rules; shooting from the bench rest position, and two handed standing positions; cleaning the pistol; and continued opportunities for skill development.
We will take the time to allow you to learn the proper way to get started with your handgun. This is a great class for new gun owners or for people who will be living in a household with handguns.
Students will receive the NRA Guide to the Basics of Pistol Shooting handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet, take a Basics of Pistol Shooting Student Examination, and course completion certificate. (Lesson Plan 2nd edition, 2009, 02/11)
NRA's core Basic Pistol Course has six major parts. We enhance that core class for civilians who want to live responsibly while protecting themselves and their family inside their home. And we adjust according to the circumstances and enrollment in each class. Here's the core:
1. Pistol Knowledge and Safe Gun Handling
2. Ammunition Knowledge and the Fundamentals of Pistol Shooting
3. Firing the First Shots
4. Scoring Targets and Selecting and Maintinaining your Pistol
5. Continued Opportunities for Skill Development
6. The One-Handed Standing Shooting Position
We take you as you are and bring you to the next level. Our Basic Pistol classes are relatively small. We provide individual instruction and give individual attention within the context of that small class. This is a great course for couples or families where one or more members are new to handguns.
This Basic Pistol class is required for you to take the next course in the NRA Personal Protection sequence: Personal Protection In The Home.
E-mail us if you want to take a Personal Protection In The Home class even if you prefer a class not yet on our schedule. We add classes from time to time as circumstances permit.
The NRA requires that you take the NRA Basic Pistol class before you take Personal Protection In The Home. We include the NRA Basic Pistol course as part of our Concealed Handgun Permit training, so if you've taken our CHP/Basic Pistol class you already meet that NRA requirement.
If you've taken a CHP Pistol class from another instructor you can satisfy the NRA requirement in one of two ways. You either can take just the NRA Basic Pistol portion of our CHP/Basic Pistol class or you can take a special Personal Protection In The Home qualification with us by special arrangement before the class. Either way we'll be happy to work with you so you can take this vitally important class.
