Topics will include interacting with suspect s\, witnesses\, responding police officers\, threat recognition and mind-s et\, and the management of the social and psychological aftermath of havin g to use lethal force in defense of self or others.  Also covered is prep aring beforehand for legal repercussions and minimizing your exposure to t hem. Situations in the home\, at the place of business\, or “on the stre et” will all be covered.  Range work will include instruction in the us e of the defensive handgun under extreme stress. Drawing from concealment\ , two-handed stances\, shooting from cover\, one-handed stances with eithe r hand\, speed reloading\, and more are taught with an overall emphasis on fast\, accurate shot placement. The course will culminate with a written examination covering the classroom topics and a police-style handgun quali fication course.\n\nClass will start at 8:00 sharp each morning and we wil l focus on the legal lecture until 1:00 PM.  Then we will move to the ran ge and do range work from 1:00 until 6:00 PM each day.\nWhat Do I Bring?\n \n A good quality handgun\, suitable for self-protection and/or concealed carry.  Remember that you will be firing approximately 500 rounds during this class\, so ultra-lightweight firearms\, though suitable for conceale d carry\, are not a good choice for class use.  If you have any questions about the suitability of your gun\, please contact us.  It is a good ide a to bring a spare gun\, if you have one\, just in case your primary gun b reaks. ( it happens more than you think)\n A good quality holster. You need a safe\, quality holster and belt. The CRSO certification enables you to conduct classes for RSO candidates.   If you have not had a Basic Instructor Training (BIT) course in the pre vious 2 years\, remember a BIT course is required to obtain your CRSO cred entials.\nIf you do not currently have your RSO certification\, you will n eed to come to Nebraska Shooters' facility on 12/19/26 and add the RSO cou rse to your registration below.  If you have not had the Basic Instructor Training within the past 2 years\, you will need to take a refresher.  W e have several instructor classes offering refreshers prior to this class which you can attend or we will do it on the Friday evening at 5:30 pm pri or to the RSO/CRSO classes (12/18/26).\n\nRange Safety Officer candidates will learn roles and responsibilities of an RSO\; Range Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)\; range inspection\; range rules\; range briefings\; em ergency procedures\; and firearm stoppages and malfunctions. Each Range Sa fety Officer Candidate will receive an RSO Student Study Guide\, a Basic F irearm Training Program brochure\, an NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure\, an I nstructor Application/Course Evaluation form.\n\nNRA Range Safety Officers possess the knowledge\, skills\, and attitude essential to organizing\, c onducting\, and supervising safe shooting activities and range operations indoors and outdoors.\n\nThe NRA developed its program in response to the demand for a nationally-recognized Range Safety Officer ("RSO") certificat ion. Our class and the certification should be especially valuable to fire arms instructors including CHP instructors.\n\nIn review\, If you do not h ave any current credentials\, you will need the BIT (12/18/26)\, RSO(12/19 /26)\, and CRSO(12/20/26) course to become a CRSO.  If you are currently an instructor and you have had your BIT within the past 2 years\, you can skip the BIT.  If you are a current RSO and you have  completed the BIT in the past 2 years you will only need the 12/20/26 CRSO course.\n\nLunch will be provided.
